The once-voluntary exam is free, and participating vessels that are found to be in compliance will receive a USCG decal which is required to be displayed on the vessel. The USCG has supplied a checklist generator that you can find by clicking here - USCG CHECKLIST Regulations applicable to each vessel will be based on various vessel operating parameters, such as: vessel length, where vessel operates, number of people on board, type of fishery, hull material, etc. By using the checklist generator, you will be more prepared for the dockside examination and a SAFE season! (At this time, the generator will not work on iPhones, iPads, and some other technology systems, but the Coast Guard is working to fix that problem asap.
