Alaskan Crab Fishing Pay
They WISH there was an annual salary but there is absolutely no predicting what kind of money you make. First off...lets put away the nice images of this job you see on Deadliest Catch. You are seeing such a wacked-out version of what really happens because they are trying to glorify these guys and they, believe it or not, do not show all of the danger in this job. Yes, you want to be a bad *** and think you can handle anything. Whether proving it to yourself, a girlfriend or bragging rights, it IS the most dangerous job for a reason. You have a boat flying around in icy seas. You will see you are working 21 hours straight, get three hours sleep and back at it again...meanwhile a block and tackle flies through the air and knocks you dead in the head...and mean dead...like no life. I worked on a commercial fishing boat, a longliner, much smaller and more dangerous than what you see on the Deadliest Catch longliners. Because of their size they are far more stable when pulling line in the storms. We would go out for 8 days at a time and we would make all kinds of different money. I am talking I made $1200 in one 8 day period and then $22 after a longer trip where we hit a storm and lost all of the equipment and alot of our catch. It was like the perfect storm.
